Office Ceiling Painting
Office ceilings can usually be refreshed by painting rather than replacing: suspended ceiling tiles and their metal grid can be cleaned and recoated in place or taken down and sprayed, and plasterboard ceilings are filled, stain blocked and repainted, all planned around working hours so the office keeps running.

Suspended ceiling tiles
Many offices have a suspended ceiling of mineral fibre tiles sitting in a metal grid. Over time the tiles yellow, pick up marks from leaks and look tired next to freshly painted walls. Painting them is often a practical alternative to buying a full set of new tiles.
Tiles can be painted in place or lifted out and sprayed off site or in a clear area, which gives a more even finish. A suitable paint is used so the tiles keep their texture, and where acoustic performance or fire rating matters, the tile maker's guidance on coatings should be checked before any work.
The ceiling grid
The metal grid holding the tiles often looks worse than the tiles themselves, with rust spots, scuffs and discolouration. It can be cleaned, keyed and painted with a primer and finish suited to metal, which lifts the whole ceiling.
Painting the grid is fiddly, so it is usually done with the tiles removed. That also makes it a good moment to replace any tiles that are broken or badly stained.
Plasterboard and solid ceilings
Plasterboard ceilings in offices, meeting rooms and corridors are treated much like ceilings at home, only at a larger scale. Cracks and joints are filled and sanded with dustless equipment, and water marks are sealed with a stain blocking primer so they do not bleed through.
In busy areas a durable, low sheen finish helps hide imperfections under strong office lighting, which tends to show every ripple on a ceiling.
Working around the business
Ceiling work means access equipment above desks, so it is usually best done outside normal hours or in zones. As part of our commercial work we regularly paint in the evenings, at weekends and during planned closures, so staff come back to a finished space.
Desks, IT equipment and flooring are covered before we start, and each zone is cleaned down before it is handed back. Light fittings, smoke detectors and vents are masked or removed and replaced by the right trade where needed.

Planning the colour and light
Most office ceilings are painted white or a very pale shade, because they reflect light back down onto desks and make the space feel brighter. A tired, yellowed ceiling can make even a well lit office feel dull, so repainting it often has a bigger effect than people expect.
Where a darker or coloured ceiling is wanted, for example in a reception, breakout area or meeting room with a stronger brand look, it is worth checking how it works with the lighting before committing. Samples painted on a tile or a small patch of ceiling help decide before the whole area is done.
